Optimism refuses to believe that the road ends without options.

~ Robert H. Schuller

The heart of optimism is the belief that every problem has a solution. Robert H. Schuller, who was a popular and controversial Christian televangelist, often called for people to base their optimism on their beliefs in the supernatural. However, in reality, optimism is not that kind of naïve hope. Instead we can read this quote knowing that true optimism embraces an understanding of life that is complex, nuanced, and unpredictable.

We do not move forward with our goals and aspirations through willful ignorance but with optimism, because progress comes from trusting our decision making process and believing in our abilities. Sometimes the solutions to a problem are not the ones we hoped for; optimism carries us forward, through disappointment to appreciation and gratitude.

Knowing that our success and happiness lies within can be seen as a burden or an insurmountable obstacle, but a corrected perspective knows that means we have the power to improve our lives and make the world a better place, right in our own hands.

Every problem has a solution; every difficulty comes to an end; every obstacle can be overcome. My optimism is based on positive thinking and the belief that I can solve the problems I face and improve the life I lead.
